A DOSE OF HOPE

stories of hope from the front liNes of the opioid crisis

More than FOUR-hundred people will die TODAY

from an addiction overdose in the United States.

But across the nation,

bold steps are being taken to address the crisis.

A DOSE OF HOPE tells the stories of those on the front lines of our nation’s opioid and addiction epidemic. They are stories of hope, resilience, healing and recovery that highlight the many resources available to individuals and their families suffering from addiction.

PBS TELEVISION + NATIONAL OUTREACH

A DOSE OF HOPE is a  PUBLIC television SPECIAL SERIES and NATIONAL outreach INITIATIVE to raise awareness of the resources available to individuals and families caught in the opioid crisis, and to breakdown public stigma associated with addiction.

A DOSE OF HOPE is a multi-pronged public health and education campaign with an emphasis on reaching rural communities that are often the most impacted by opioid use.

Utilizing local Public Television (PBS) stations and community resources, the campaign will have both national reach and local impact. Local Public Television (PBS) stations and community partners will allow the program messages and information to be personalized to local needs. Local screenings and events will offer avenues for community involvement. Partnerships and alliances will help bring the stories to a broad and diverse public through a variety of means.

A PROVEN APPROACH

A DOSE OF HOPE is based on A  SUCCESSFUL and PROVEN APPROACH. In November 2018, Warner Hanson Television, in cooperation with Maryland Public Television and The MD Dept of Behavioral Health, released the highly successful program FIGHTING OPIOIDS TODAY: MARYLAND COMMUNITIES.

The program received immediate critical acclaim and, most importantly, its airings coincided with notable spikes in calls to the crisis line  and other resources highlighted throughout the program. The program also prompted the creation of screenings and town hall/community meetings across the State.

A DOSE OF HOPE will take a national approach, highlighting successful programs and resources from across the nation. Additionally, it will include means for specializing the program and outreach to local jurisdictions, crisis lines, and resources.

Collaborating with local PBS stations, we can bring this impact to local and rural communities across the nation in a highly effective national package.

A DOSE OF HOPE will include a toolkit for local communities to utilize to extend the impact, outline means for creating events and screenings effectively, and offer content and assets to assist communities in reaching those in need immediately.
